As part of the Ascendant's sense of ingenuity and secret pride, a Burst Gunner is to serve two unique policies in the near future; chief among them of course will be maintaining public peace in society through superior force. But the other less obvious intention is to render all other traditional handheld firepower obsolete such that their lines of production are discontinued. Only the hardware of the Burst Gunner must prevail.

In the early 20th century, fully automatic rifles were still in development and wouldn’t be widely adopted by militaries until the first World War. But the Ascendants, like the LYS, almost always have access to new technologies before anyone else does. Ascendant Gunners who performed well (or made the right friends) could be issued a shiny new prototype burst rifle, immediately making both them far deadlier, and the envy of their peers.
