She is more forthcoming than ever, like she wants to accelerate her lessons. &lt;sp&gt;And then she gifts her the Shade Bracers… Surely, Reika had a sense that something lifechanging was &lt;/sp&gt;about to happen.

As his former &lt;sp&gt;teacher, Reika is often aware of what remains unsaid just by looking into Vincent’s eyes, an ability to empathize with the thoughts and intentions of her young pupil. Yet, many years later, before she is struck down by the Ascendants, there is but a blank... Reika suddenly realizes she can no longer discern what Vincent is thinking.&lt;/sp&gt;

Vincent and his Ascendants are excavating in the remote Richat Structure &lt;sp&gt;when Reika stops by, attempting to drive them off. Reika shows how powerful she is, but Vincent is ready for her with some kind of high tech Umbric inhibitor machines... was he expecting her&lt;/sp&gt; all along?

Shade Bracers

When rubble in blocks the way forward for Haroona and her mentor, Reika decides &lt;sp&gt;her protégé is ready to wield the power of the Shade bracers. Humbled, Haroona dons them, clears the rubble from their path, and quietly notes that this is &lt;/sp&gt;the beginning of a new era for her Umbric abilities.

While pursuing an old pupil of Reika’s named Vincent Lichter across the desert of the Richat Structure, Haroona unexpectedly confronts a mysterious faction calling themselves the Ascendants. She witnesses her mentor mercilessly cut down by Vincent before a raging sandstorm separates them forever.
