Ages ago, the Sanctuary under Quinta Matos was constructed around a Terminal. Generations of the Matos clan used the Terminal as a site to study the Fold.

Peshanden

It appears that in the time of the Sahin, the Terminal at Peshanden was central to the functioning of their civilization. It's difficult to understand how, exactly, since the Sahin's understanding of Terminals was streets ahead of our own.

Terminals are locations where the veil between the Fold and our reality is the thinnest. Many temples and places of great mystery are said to have been built along these “places of power.” The closeness of the Fold and our reality allows for individuals to come in contact with the Fold more easily than normal.On their own, Terminals do not usually cause any effects observable by the typical person. However, for reasons not entirely clear, unexplainable phenomena are sometimes experienced near Terminals. Some Quaestors theorize that much, perhaps even all of the world’s “paranormal” phenomena can be attributed to Terminal activity.
