Dr. Emilio Matos actually descends from a heritage of Portuguese Quaestors and eventually inherited the responsibility of maintaining Quinta Matos. Apart from being its heir, the country estate functions as his laboratory where he concocts his elaborate inventions.

The Deep Fold: First Dive

On the Quinta Matos grounds, it is a little known fact that the Sintra Terminal is located at the bottom of the 'Initiation Well.' This is how Quaestors of the past could access the Fold.

What secrets does the ancestral family home of Dr. Matos hold? Located among the palacios and castelos of Sintra, this country estate is recognized as a steadfast example of Portuguese Romanticist construction, gothic and medieval in its intention. The villa’s interior and courtyards twist and turn, however, revealing a penchant for exotic arabesque expressions, like stone carved motifs of vines and leaves resembling nothing found in nature.The grounds have served many purposes over the countless generations that it has been in the Matos family’s possession; a site of ritual and reverence for Quaestors, a venue for lavish parties hosting the summering aristocracy, an exhibition garden for exotic flora, a refuge for Dr. Matos during his reclusive phases, and, perhaps most notably, as a hive of Umbric research, design and manufacture for the Ascendants.
